Sports gala in Brandenburg: Honors and moving words for the future!
On Saturday evening, the Audimax of the Brandenburg University of Technology experienced a spectacular event that celebrated the sporting achievements of 2024! The sports gala of the Brandenburg an der Havel City Sports Association (SSB) brought together around 260 sports enthusiasts, including representatives from 20 Brandenburg clubs and guests of honor. An evening full of acrobatics from the “Cheer Athletics Brandenburg”, rousing dance from DJ Greg Orange and an impressive roller skating performance from Till Schleinitz (TJ Wheels) made hearts beat faster!
Sebastian Bradke, the managing director of the SSB, charmingly led the event and called out to those present:"Sport is not just training for the body, but also for the mind. Regular exercise can extend life by up to seven years - if that's not an incentive!"He proudly looked back on a sporting year that included highlights such as the World Rowing Masters and the German Canoe and SUP Championships. Bradke thanked the volunteers who work tirelessly for sport in the Havel city.
Important messages and honors
In his opening speech, SSB chairman Gerd Wartenberg emphasized the essential role of sport in times of crisis."The corona pandemic has shown us how important sport is for the body and soul. But unfortunately it has also removed many children from exercise. It is our job to get them back into the clubs,"said Wartenberg. Despite criticism of the federal government's inadequate financial support, he was optimistic:“The new artificial turf pitch is a step in the right direction – it will improve football training and create synergies.”
An emotional highlight of the evening was the honoring of outstanding athletes who were recognized for their long-standing commitment and sporting successes. Those honored included Christian Bolz from the Regattateam Brandenburg Beetzsee e.V., Kai-Uwe Ewald from Freizeitsport im Team e.V., Marco Leffs from BSG Stahl Brandenburg e.V., Michael Drabek from BSRK 1883 e.V., Eva Pauli from BKV Freie Wasserfahrer 1925 e.V. and Lars Beilfuss from R.C.H.B. e.V. These awards, presented by Gerd Wartenberg and Alexandra Adel, gave the evening a special touch and recognized the passion and endurance of the athletes.
