Rescuers in action: Missing mushroom picker found after hours of searching!
A remarkable rescue operation took place yesterday evening in the Beetz Forest. A 70-year-old man from Velten who was hunting for mushrooms went missing after he did not return home in time. The last contact his relatives had with him was at 9:22 p.m.
The alerted emergency services, including the police, all fire departments from Oberhavel and rescue dog teams from Berlin and Brandenburg, immediately started searching. The operation was coordinated from a cooperation point on Neuhofer Weg in Löwenberger Land.
Emergency forces mobilized
From 10 p.m., the local emergency services began their search in the southern area, while three rescue dog teams were deployed from the north. These squadrons from Berlin, Barnim and Brandenburg-Wittstock were deployed from the optimal locations to search the area.
Particular attention was paid to finding the missing man as quickly as possible. This led to the rescue dog squadrons starting their first mission at around 1:50 a.m. In addition, a police helicopter was also requested to cover the area from the air. These measures were supported by drones that were used by fire departments from Liebenwalde, Hohen Neuendorf and Oranienburg to obtain an even more comprehensive view of the forest area.
Despite extensive efforts, the missing man initially remained untraceable. It was a nerve-racking operation in which the emergency services continued to search until the early hours of the morning. At around 3 a.m. the good news finally came: the man had been found. He was completely exhausted, but in good health.
“The person was found in the forest near Grieben by our firefighters around 3 a.m., completely exhausted,” said Maik Mache, the deputy fire chief of the municipality of Löwenberger Land. The work carried out by the rescue workers impressively shows the importance and efficiency in coordinating rescue operations in such emergencies.
The operation illustrates how quickly the most important steps sometimes have to be taken to ensure the well-being of missing people. The cooperation between various rescue and aid organizations played a central role in the successful completion of the search. The commitment of everyone involved contributed to the man being safely rescued from his predicament.
