Things are getting dark and dangerous in the Lindau district: shocking cases of fraud have relieved innocent citizens of hundreds of thousands of euros! A 46-year-old woman fell for a love scam that required her to transfer a staggering six-figure sum to a supposed lover. The alleged 38-year-old man she met on social media turned out to be a phantom - the transfers went to accounts in Italy, Lithuania and Spain. Only when the promised repayment failed to materialize did she turn to the police in desperation.
The numbers are alarming: around ten Lindau residents have already reported love fraud this year and lost over 100,000 euros. Over 70 people filed a complaint with the Swabia South/West Police Headquarters alone and suffered a total loss of more than one million euros! But that's not all - an 81-year-old pensioner was the victim of a perfidious investment fraud. After a doctored interview with a supposed musician promoting crypto investments, he was pressured into making a four-figure transfer by a fake customer service representative. Only later did he realize that he had been taken in by a fraudster.
Alarming fraud statistics
In 2023, the number of investment fraud cases has exploded! So far, almost 300 cases have been registered, resulting in enormous damage of over ten million euros. At the Swabia South/West Police Headquarters, the statistics for the current year already show 270 reports and a shocking total loss of over twelve million euros.
The police warn urgently and have put together helpful tips to protect citizens from these brazen schemes: Check profiles thoroughly and inform yourself before passing on personal information or transferring money! Never risk your own money carelessly - when making investment offers, be sure to question the seriousness of the provider and be sure to get comparison offers! This is the only way the population can protect themselves from these unscrupulous fraudsters and defend themselves!
