Neukölln's integration officer warns: Violence and insecurity in Berlin!
Berlin is burning! Neukölln's integration officer, Güner Balci (49), puts his finger in the capital's wound. In an explosive interview with Die Welt, she accuses former Chancellor Angela Merkel (70, CDU) of serious allegations. According to Balci, the former chancellor did not recognize the big picture of refugee policy. Merkel, the woman who came from the GDR dictatorship with a wealth of experience, did not treat migrants as equals but, according to Balci, saw them as “petting foreigners”. A political earthquake? That's why Balci leaves no doubt about her opinion: "Where is the clear view of a reality that shapes our city every day?"
There is a new wind in the streets of Berlin. Berlin Police Chief Barbara Slowik (58) and Balci agree: Gays and Jews feel threatened in certain parts of the city. Schools in Neukölln – for some parents it is now unimaginable to register their children there. The numbers speak for themselves: homophobic, anti-Semitic and misogynistic violence is increasing alarmingly, especially in predominantly Muslim neighborhoods. The solidarity with problematic figures from the Islamic spectrum shocks Balci. How can it be that politically responsible people do not recognize when they are on stage with Islamofascists? Balci is annoyed: “Folklore instead of factual awareness?”
Fierce debate about the political course
But the harsh criticism doesn't end there. Balci gives the parties a damning report: They don't listen to the needs of the citizens! Politics ignores the reality of life? “Our top politicians are often a thousand miles away from people’s real life situations,” accuses Balci. Whether Cem Özdemir or others who speak openly about taboo topics – criticism follows quickly. Openness is quickly demonized as racism.
In the clearly hackneyed policy of cozying up to Islamists, many new migrants - Syrians, Afghans, Kurds and the like - do not find any well-being. “What is actually happening here?” they ask themselves, shocked by the lack of toughness against Islamist leeway. Your appeal? Less caution, more of a clear stance against those who have fled traditional Islamic coercion for the same reasons.
