Cold shower for Lower Austria's outdoor pools: May weather slows down the start of the season!

The outdoor swimming season in Lower Austria began at the beginning of May, but was affected by unfavorable weather conditions. According to oe24.at, operators of outdoor swimming pools in the region have reported freezing temperatures and overcrowded sunbathing areas. Lower Austrian pool spokesman Harald Gölles described the start of the season as “bumpy”. The few hours of sunshine and cool temperatures of 1-2 degrees below the long-term average have caused many operators to postpone the opening times of their systems until mid-May.

The changeable weather is due to an omega weather pattern that prevents the typical warm Mediterranean currents. Meteorologists have indicated that the cool north-easterly winds will continue to have an impact, although there are bright spots for the coming months. Gölles is optimistic, as previous similar weather patterns often resulted in hot late summer months. This also gives operators hope that the peak season could shift towards late summer, especially in the southern regions.

Season tickets and visitor interest

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, sales of season tickets are going well. The operators report great interest from guests. The experiences from the last few years are also optimistic, pointing to a hopefully successful swimming season in 2025. The outdoor pools are well prepared to ensure guests have a safe and pleasant stay.

Bathing fun is also being prepared in other cities. For example, the municipal outdoor pools in Freiburg will soon be opening their doors. According to freiburg.de, the season tickets are already available, with on-site sales taking place at cash registers at various pools. Seasonal passes for adults and families can also be purchased online, making access easier. The lido plans to open at the end of April, depending on the weather.

Innovations in payment transactions

In Frankfurt, frankfurter-baeder.de offers a modern payment system using advantage cards. These cards work like a cash card with loaded credit and enable cashless payments in many bathrooms. Discounts of up to 25 percent on regular admission prices and the transferability of the cards make them an attractive option for swimming pool visitors. At the same time, there are certain conditions under which the cards can be used, such as compliance with tariff combinations.

Overall, the outdoor pools in the different regions show that, despite challenging weather conditions, bathing fun is not in danger. The anticipation of sunny days remains, and both visitors and operators are hoping for better weather conditions in the coming weeks.
