Big demonstration in Berlin: We are irreducible! – Protest against austerity measures!

Amidst the festive mood and social challenges, a charity event took place in Berndorf that warmed hearts. On December 18, 2024, Alexanderstrasse was transformed into a lively punch stand, organized by the Free Active Youth in collaboration with committed citizens. Around 400 euros were collected to support the TRIDOK association. The organizers of the event said: “We were really lucky this year, we were able to achieve second place at GründerLand NÖ and wanted to share a little bit of our joy,” said the organizers, who showed a strong community bond while celebrating with friends and acquaintances. How NOEN reported that participants were enthusiastic about the festive atmosphere and the opportunity to serve a good cause.

Demonstrations in Berlin show social discontent

While joy was shared in Berndorf, things were simmering in the German capital Berlin. On December 15, large numbers of people gathered to protest against the drastic 3 billion euro cuts that the Berlin Senate is planning in almost all areas, including education, health and culture. Under the motto “We cannot be shortened! – A Berlin for everyone!” 70 civil society organizations, including “Grandmas Against the Right” and “Fridays For Future”, mobilized hundreds of participants for a large demonstration Berlin Live reported.

The protest attracted numerous committed citizens who called for a reversal of the planned cuts and particularly focused on the needs of vulnerable groups in the city. The demonstration route passed through central points of the city and significant traffic delays were expected. The harsh austerity measures, which permanently threaten Berlin's social and cultural infrastructure, have been calling for protests for weeks. The people of Berlin are standing up and demanding change - the mood in the capital remains tense.
