Baumgartl draws conclusion: Why I will never give up Schalke 04!
The 28-year-old central defender Timo Baumgartl is leaving Schalke 04 and starting a new chapter in his career with St. Louis City SC in the USA. How ruhr24 reported, his contract with the club was terminated on August 29, 2024, and he will play in Major League Soccer (MLS) from January 1, 2025. Baumgartl looks back on a turbulent time in Gelsenkirchen, in which he only made twelve appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga. After public criticism, he was initially transferred to the U23 team and finally excluded from the professional squad.
Despite the difficulties, Baumgartl has no grudge against Schalke or coach Karel Geraerts. “I'm more happy when the boys win again,” he explained, emphasizing that he still has respect for his former coach. His time at Schalke was marked by high expectations, including the goal of taking the club back to the Bundesliga, which Baumgartl sees as “part of his commitment”. Schalke fans have different opinions about him, but he takes it in stride. "Some like me and some don't," he expressed.
A new beginning in the USA

With the support of fans, he hopes to achieve his goals in US soccer, having already gained experience with other clubs, including VfB Stuttgart and Union Berlin.
