Traffic light coalition on the brink of collapse? Scholz is fighting for agreement after Trump's victory!

Berlin – The traffic light coalition is on the brink! After Donald Trump's shocking victory in the US presidential election, the nerves of the SPD, Greens and FDP are strained to the breaking point. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) immediately called for a crisis meeting with Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP). The urgent question is: How do we plug the billion-dollar hole in the 2025 budget and get the ailing German economy back on track? If the coalition committee does not reach an agreement this evening, it could mean the end of the traffic light era!

The uncertainty brought by Trump's victory could perhaps bring the coalition partners together. SPD leader Lars Klingbeil made an urgent appeal: “I hope that everyone will now throw party tactics overboard!” The responsibility that rests on their shoulders could force them to agree. Green Party leader Omid Nouripour also sees the election as a wake-up call for Europe: “We must independently strengthen our defense capability and economy!” A strong signal from the traffic light government could now be decisive.

The crucial scenarios for the traffic lights

The situation is tense: Lindner has declared the “autumn of decisions”. The budget must be passed on November 29th, and the proposals for an economic turnaround have already caused a stir in the coalition. His plan to abolish the solidarity surcharge for higher earners is met with strong resistance. But in the midst of these tensions, Habeck shows a willingness to use funding to stabilize the budget.

Time is running out! If the traffic light reaches an agreement this evening, the Bundestag could set the course for the future on November 14th. Otherwise there is a risk of a major breakup of the coalition. An exit by the FDP would give the SPD and the Greens a choice: minority government or new elections? If the traffic light bursts, the political landscape in Germany could experience a dramatic change!
