Waging at the lake: 900 euros for the youth fire brigade through a melodious tradition!

In December 2025, the Waging am See youth fire department received important financial support, which was made possible by the tradition of Klöpfelsingen. On December 21, 2025, a ceremonial handover of 900 euros to the youth fire department took place in the Waginger fire station. This sum comes from the donations that Petra Schlagbauer, Lisa Schmuck and Kurt Wirsing collected as part of their activities as “Kletzeisänger”. The group of singers moved through the market town and brought the Christmas message with them.

The custom of Klöpfelsingen, which is firmly rooted in southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland, symbolizes Mary and Joseph's search for a shelter. Roving groups help keep this tradition alive while raising funds for charitable causes. The grateful youth officer Oliver Böhr confirmed that the donation received would primarily benefit youth support. In addition to the support for the youth fire department, two other social institutions also received 400 euros each.

More about the youth fire department

The youth fire brigade is a central opportunity for young people to get involved on a voluntary basis. This form of active participation in coexistence is accessible almost everywhere in Bavaria through the voluntary fire departments. In order to take part in the youth fire brigade, those interested must be a member of the children's fire brigade from the age of 6 and active in the youth fire brigade from the age of 12. The content of the youth fire brigade is diverse and includes, among other things, learning the basics of fire service, how to use fire extinguishers, setting up hoses and carrying out simple rescue measures. Fun and teamwork play a crucial role.

From the age of 16, you have the opportunity to take part in basic fire service training and in certain operations. Regular firefighting, personal rescue and first aid exercises contribute to the young people's practical experience. Competitions also promote knowledge and teamwork, which not only allows young people to acquire important skills, but also strengthens the community.

The tradition of lights has not been forgotten either. As an expression of gratitude, the singers were presented with the Peace Light from Bethlehem, which was lit in the Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem. This light spreads a sign of peace and can be picked up in the Waginger parish church of St. Martin. The village community once again showed solidarity, as singer Lisa Schmuck noted in her acceptance speech, and confirmed the Waging population's high willingness to donate.
