Art and fate: Gilching cultural week enchants in the Wersonhaus
This year, the Wersonhaus in Gilching is once again attracting visitors with a fascinating light and sound installation during the culture week. Under the title “It’s all fate?!” The Word Rich, a creative writing group that has been active since March 2021, and the Zeitreise association together with theschichtwerk museum take those present on a moving journey through various facets of fate. The project manager, Sylvia Oertel, talks about the strong connection that developed during the preparations.
“I was so excited and touched,” Oertel remembers the Culture Week 2022, when spectacular graphics of the origin of the universe were staged on the facade of the Wersonhaus. It was the inspiration that brought her and Annette Reindel, the museum's director, together. Together they decided to reach a new audience through an impressive exhibition on the occasion of the tenth culture week. Oertel, who works as a project manager, explains that this is the first time the Word Rich have launched a public campaign.
The creative connection
The Word Rich, consisting of five creative minds from Gilching, meet once a month to live out their passion for writing. Their ages range from 40 to 70 years old and they come from different walks of life and careers. This colorful mix brings together diverse ideas and perspectives, which was also the key to the success of this project. Oertel emphasizes that the collaboration with Reindel came at the ideal time, as both sides had the desire to create something unique.
With the theme “Fate,” they quickly found a suitable framework for their installation. “We wanted to bring what is in the museum to the outside world,” explains Reindel, pointing to the complex stories that the exhibition has to offer. A key source of inspiration was the personal life story of Jules Werson, after whom the Werson House is named. “Everyone has a fate – this is a very universal theme,” adds Oertel, pointing out that the planned content goes far beyond the individual exhibits.
In a complex creative process, various works of art were created, which are linked together through words, sounds and images. The aim was to make the topic of “fate” tangible and multimedia. A central element of the installation are the headphone-supported performances, which create a kind of “silent disco”. In a 20-minute work of art, viewers can immerse themselves in the world of words of the verbose.
“It was also a journey of discovery for us,” notes Oertel. The performances are designed so that guests wait for the next performance to begin in order to fully appreciate the entire experience. “I haven't really seen it myself yet,” admits Reindel, letting us feel the excitement of the upcoming vernissage.
The official opening of the project will take place on Friday, October 18th at 7 p.m. at the Wersonhaus, Brucker Straße 11. Thereafter, a performance will be shown again every 20 minutes and will last until midnight. The following Saturday and Sunday, October 19th and 20th, the presentation will continue from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., while the museum will be open to visitors. Entry is free.
