Rain showers approaching: Where to pack an umbrella today!

The weather situation in Austria today, May 27, 2025, brings with it different weather conditions. According to 5min.at, the tendency to showers will increase over the course of the afternoon. Gray rain clouds are moving over the country and are bringing rainfall with them, especially on the north side of the Alps, from Vorarlberg to the Salzkammergut. In contrast, the southern side of the Alps remains temporarily dry while the risk of thunderstorms increases there.

The weather remains stable for the longest time in eastern Austria. The daily maximum temperatures range between 16 and 24 degrees, while a moderate to brisk wind blows from the west.

Forecast for the evening and night

As wetter.ORF.at reports, it will remain rainy in some areas this evening and overnight, especially in Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia. However, dry weather can be expected almost everywhere in the east and southeast of the country. The last showers will subside by midnight while temperatures will drop to 15 to 4 degrees.

Forecast for Wednesday and Ascension Day

A strong westerly current is forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday, bringing with it a front of rain and thunderstorms. Clouds from Bavaria are pushing into the country, but the sun can remain in the east and south for the time being. In the afternoon the rain will become more widespread and thunderstorms are also possible. The rain will begin in the evening in Lower Carinthia as well as in southern and eastern Styria up to Central Burgenland. The wind picks up and can reach speeds of 50 to 60 km/h, and in the mountains even up to 80 km/h.

Temperatures tomorrow will range between 15 and 25 degrees, with the highest values ​​​​can be reached in the east.

Long-term weather forecast

According to wetter.at, a cool and brisk to stormy northwest wind can be expected in the days after Ascension Day. Intermittent sunny periods alternate with cloudy periods. Most cloud cover occurs in the Northern Alps and the northern foothills of the Alps, where increased rain is expected. Snow could fall at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,300 meters.

Temperatures vary between 13 and 24 degrees, with cooler values ​​at higher altitudes.

Friday brings warming with bright sunshine in Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Carinthia, while it remains alternately sunny and cloudy from Salzburg to Burgenland. Individual rains are expected, especially in Upper Styria and the Mostviertel. Summer temperatures of up to 30 degrees could be reached on Saturday, with thunderstorms on the main Alpine ridge. Sunday will be mostly sunny, with occasional showers and thunderstorms in the mountains and hills.
