Coach change at the Devils: Jainz has to leave after defeats!

After a series of three defeats in a row, the Bayern league ice hockey team VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm has pulled the ripcord and parted ways with coach Martin Jainz. This decision was made on Tuesday, and the club management, consisting of Tobias Höhnlein, Markus Pscheidl and managing director Patrick Meißner, stated that votes from the team were also decisive. “The connection to the team has been lost,” said Meißner. According to Höhnlein, the players had the feeling that the coach's tactical preparations no longer met expectations. The number of spectators was also declining, which put additional pressure on those responsible.

Frustration with Martin Jainz

Martin Jainz reacted disappointedly to the decision. “I spoke to the team after the game on Sunday and no one commented on that,” he explained. Jainz felt let down and saw the breakup as a personal defeat. “If people are hiding, then I know the decision has been made,” he said after he was unable to reach any of those responsible. Jainz had held the coaching position since February 2022 and was responsible for the team's return to top performance.

Interim solution for the Devils

In the transition phase, the goalkeeper coach and assistant coach Martin Niemz and Patrick Meißner will take over the management of the team. They will look after the team at the upcoming games this weekend. Meißner announced that he would look for a new coach and hopes to be able to present a successor next week. Those responsible are curious to see whether the team will react to the changes and improve their performance in the coming weeks.
