Avalanche accident in Tyrol: Ski touring is seriously injured!
Brandberg, Österreich - A dramatic incident occurred on Saturday morning, February 22, 2025, in the municipality of Brandberg in the Schwaz district. Three ski tourers from Bavaria had decided to climb the Szipspitze in the Zillertal main ridge. But around 10 a.m. the adventure became abrupt to the nightmare when a snowboard loosened below the small spoon tip. A 31-year-old athlete had no chance and was carried away by the avalanche, as the police also confirmed. It was a race against time!
The other two ski tourers who were not torn to the accident acted immediately and started the rescue chain. While they were waiting for the emergency services, they provided first aid for their fallen friend. The injured German suffered serious head and thigh injuries and had to be flown to the hospital in Innsbruck with a emergency helicopter after a rapid primary care by the Mayerhofen mountain rescue. Fortunately, the other two remained intact and were brought into the valley by the police, as the ORF reported ( orf ).
