Science enthusiastic: First Freising Science Slam in the Linden cellar!
Veitsmüllerweg 2, 85354 Freising, Deutschland - An exciting event is imminent: On November 7, 2024, the first joint science slam of the most important research institutions in the city will take place. From 7:00 p.m. in the Lindenkeller, scientists from the Weihenstephan campus will entertained their current research projects in an entertaining manner and actively involve the audience.
The participation of five renowned institutions-the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (HSWT) University of Applied Sciences, the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (LFL), the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Technology and Packaging (Fraunhofer IVV) as well as the Leibniz Institute for Food System Biology of TUM (Leibniz-LSB@Tum) - makes this event particularly remarkable. The Science Slam offers a platform where science meets creativity and the audience is invited to coordinate the best lecture of the evening.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with admission, and the participants can look forward to various, interesting lectures that are both an educational and entertaining. With only 5 euros admission, everyone is cordially invited to immerse yourself in the world of science without having to worry about complicated technical language.
The topics of the presentations are diverse. Julian Eckert from HSWT talks about "Magic Microbes - Little Artists on Great Mission", where he addresses the potential of microorganisms to solve ecological challenges. His research shows how microbes can reduce harmful substances and contribute to sustainability.
dr. Klaas Reglitz from Leibniz-LSB@tum will present the secret behind the variety of flavors of craft beers. His lecture is about what role the different types of hops play for the taste of the beer and what brewers have to consider in order to keep the flavors. Simone Göppert from TUM also deals with the immune system and its mechanisms and will explain how cells recognize virus infections.
The topic of Tunaiye Uapingen from the LFL, which deals with the development of virus tests for food. These are crucial to ensure that healthy products reach consumers, especially after corona pandemic.
In her lecture, Helen Haug from Fraunhofer IVV will also explore the world of smells. It will show how odor substances can be analyzed and their meaning in our everyday life, from modern packaging to recycling processes.
The organizers, including the city of Freising and Curiocity gGmbH, have the goal of making science accessible and exciting for everyone. Kim Ludwig-Petsch, Managing Director of Curiocity, emphasized that the event promotes a valuable exchange between research and society. Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher emphasized how important the Freising Weihenstephan location is, since tradition and innovative research meet here.
