Current trends in early cancer detection
Current cancer screening programs are primarily based on risk stratification by age and gender. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption as well as genetic predispositions and previous illnesses are not sufficiently taken into account in these programs. The assumption is that risk adaptation improves the benefit-to-harm ratio of early cancer detection, such as krebshilfe.de highlights.
Research in this area focuses on the development and validation of concepts for risk-adapted early cancer detection. Among other things, parameters are developed and instruments for individual risk determination are tested. The analysis of need and acceptance as well as the ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA) of risk adaptation in early detection are also concerns.
