A radiant success for the Joseph von Eichendorff school! On November 7, the team around Rector Andrea Pöchmann in Regensburg was awarded the Bavarian Dementia Prize. Together with committed teachers and specialists from the St. Martin retirement home, she accepted the honor. This award recognizes the outstanding work of the school in the field of dementia sensitization and is a sign of respect for people with dementia.

solemn award and moving actions

After the award ceremony, the school community celebrated the following Friday in the auditorium. In her speech, Pöchmann emphasized the importance of the certificate from the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care and Prevention. "We want to involve the sick more into social life," she said. Since September 2023, the students have dealt intensively with the topic of dementia. The highlight was a "dementia week" in which the children experienced everyday situations from the perspective of those affected. Actions such as board games with seniors and a 4th grade concert ensured touching encounters.

a strong sign for society

"The students get involved with great empathy and gain valuable experiences for their lives," said Pöchmann. Politicians such as MDL Petra Loibl and Mayor Josef Beham also praised the project and emphasized the importance of the connection between young and old. In Bavaria, around 270,000 people currently live with dementia, and the Joseph-von-Eichendorff school is making a valuable contribution to the sensitization and integration of these people. A strong sign for an inclusive society!
