Art and time: Devaney Claro invites you to the fascinating exhibition in Karlsfeld!
Time is a topic that deals with all people - and that is exactly what Brazilian artist Devaney Claro dedicated to his latest works. From Friday, October 11th, the Galerie Kunstwerkstatt in Karlsfeld invites you to deal with his work. The exhibition is entitled "An artistic essay over time" and offers visitors the opportunity to discover the different facets of the time.
Claro, who develops his art between the cultural influences of Rio de Janeiro and Munich, was inspired by the Brazilian art scene. Artists like Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark as well as European sizes such as Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee influence his work. Klee, in particular, has motivated with his considerations on the visibility of art Claro: "Art does not give the visible again, but makes it visible."
diverse time concepts
In the exhibition, the time is discussed in a variety of ways. Some of the works shown can be found in colorful geometric colored areas. On closer inspection, you can see that these apparent paintings consist of carefully used cotton threads that are soaked with acrylic paint. This material and the creative process are directly related to the time concept that Claro wants to examine: Each work is created over a period of time, which means that it comes into a dialogue with the concept of time.
A particularly interesting detail of the exhibition is that the works have been created over a period of seven years. The first work from the described series of colors dates from 2017, while the last picture for 2024 has been announced. The creative examination of time is increased by another work that Claro has exposed to nature for several years. He himself sees "time" as an essential material of his art.
In order to make the contemporary goods more differentiated, Claro differentiates between the terms "Chronos" and "Cairos", based on ancient Greek philosophy. While "Chronos" symbolizes the linear, measurable time, the concept "Kairos" leads to a decisive moment or point in time. In the exhibition there are geometric work images that are reminiscent of calendar patterns and symbolize the linear time.
In contrast to this, there is a central work of art in which stones are presented in a spiral arrangement. These stones that come from the Isar represent "Cairos" and are linked to the artist's poetic findings. "The stones are wise. They are incredibly old," notes Claro, which indicates the deeper philosophical meaning that he attributes to these objects.a dialogue with nature
Claro sees the organic forms and natural materials in its art as a direct contrast to the geometric precision of its paintings. In its view, this duality is also reflected in time. It represents the time perception influenced by nature as part of a decolonization process that turns away from the established western systems and recalls the way of life of the indigenous peoples. His art should not only be considered, but also moved in the head.
The vernissage of the exhibition will take place on Friday, October 11th, at 7 p.m. in the Kunstkreis Karlsfeld Art Circle. The exhibition is then open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. until October 20 and offers an exciting opportunity to learn more about the concept of time about Claro’s fascinating perspective. For those interested, it is a valuable way to explore the dialogue between art and time and to deal intensively with these questions.
