Alba Berlin suffers bitter bankruptcy: Bavaria outclasses the Albatrosses!
A shock for basketball fans! Alba Berlin suffered a bitter defeat against Bayern Munich in the Euroleague. After the exhilarating win against Milan, which still caused euphoria, a sobering 86:115 (42:62) in the SAP Arena followed on Thursday evening. The Albatrosses only had a brief moment to shine before Bayern took over.
The Berliners started promisingly and even briefly led 24:23. But this high was quickly over! The Munich team, led by their star Carsen Edwards, who shone with 25 points, pulled away with a 9-0 run in the second quarter. Alba fought bravely, but her strength quickly dwindled. While Bayern were able to rest their best players like Devin Booker, the Albatrosses had to leave their few fit stars on the field until they were exhausted. A buzzer beater from their own half at the end of the third quarter symbolized Bayern's dominance - the score was already 96:56!
Alba on the hunt for records
The Berliners were suddenly on the way to a negative record: their heaviest European Cup defeat of 41 points, which they suffered against Tau Vitoria in 2008, was hanging over them. But Bayern slowed down in the last quarter and spared the Albatrosses, who were at least able to reduce the deficit somewhat. In the end, however, there was a bitter 29-point deficit that kept Alba in last place in the Euroleague table. A dark evening for the Berliners, who now urgently need to regroup!
