Friedberg in the blue lights: wrong-way drivers and container thieves on the run!

Yesterday there was a significant police operation in Friedberg, which involved both a wrong-way driver and a break-in into a construction site container. These incidents were handled by the Central Hesse Police Headquarters and caused a stir in the region.

First, the police had to move onto the A45 motorway after an 84-year-old Mercedes driver from the Ostalb district entered the motorway in the wrong direction. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when the driver drove from the “Stauferburg-Ost” parking lot towards Hanau. An oncoming driver was just able to avoid a collision, while another driver from Butzbach lost control of his VW due to the evasive maneuver and crashed into a traffic sign. Fortunately, both drivers remained uninjured.

Wrong-way drivers endanger road safety

The wrong-way driver, a senior citizen, posed a significant danger to other road users when reversing on the motorway. Shortly afterwards he had to avoid a truck and stopped on the central reservation. The police then secured the danger area and took him to the station. His driving license was confiscated on the occasion and he is now facing criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic. The material damage suffered by the Volkswagen is estimated at around 7,000 euros.

At the same time as this incident, a break-in into a container on Wiesengasse in Bad Vilbel was reported. While construction work was taking place on the sewage treatment plant, unknown perpetrators got into the container by breaking window glazing and tearing out the roller shutter. The police currently assume that the burglars were unable to steal any valuables, but did leave behind significant property damage amounting to around 5,000 euros. Information about the perpetrators can be received from the Bad Vilbel police station on (06101) 54600.

These incidents shed light on the current security concerns and traffic enforcement in the region, as the police themselves note in their regular reports. It emphasizes the need to maintain increased vigilance during construction work and to inform road users of possible dangers. The police also appeal to the public to immediately report any suspicious observations.
