Another 1,000 first-year students are starting their study adventure at Ulm University!

Today at Ulm University was a happy occasion, as over a thousand new students were ceremoniously accepted into the 2024/25 winter semester. University President Professor Michael Weber warmly welcomed the first semester students on Monday, October 14th. In an inviting speech, he encouraged those starting out at university to maintain their curiosity and tackle the challenges of their studies with courage and a spirit of discovery.

In total, almost 10,000 students are enrolled at the university in the winter semester. This means that not only the first semester students, but also numerous other students are working on their further academic goals. The majority of new students have chosen courses in medicine and dentistry, as well as bachelor's programs in psychology and economics, which shows the popularity of these disciplines among newcomers.

Opening with a clear appeal

Professor Weber made it clear that studying should be an exciting journey. He encouraged the new students to always ask questions and to actively participate in academic life. “At the end of the day, you are studying what you enjoy most,” he explained, pointing to the numerous support services the university has in place to help students during their studies.

Together with members of the student council, he presented various ways in which students can get involved. This includes the functions of the Student Body (StuVe), where there are a variety of voluntary activities. These include the organization of university parties, the bicycle workshop and participation in the committees of democratic self-government.

After the ceremonial opening, the new students were able to get to know numerous university groups in the University Forum and find out more about the university's various offerings. This also included information about the Humboldt Center, university sports and the Music Center, which are an important part of student life for many.

The introduction to the course not only included a warm welcome, but also the first subject introductions, which were intended to make it easier for the new students to enter academic life. This exchange of information laid the foundation for a successful period of study and enabled students to orientate themselves at an early stage and to actively shape campus life.

Ulm University is known for its high quality of life and green campus design, which makes it an attractive place to study. It remains to be seen how the new developments will affect the university, but the first steps taken by the first semester students already seem promising.
