Series of shots in Stuttgart: calm after two years of violent struggle?
Stuttgart breathes a sigh of relief! After two years of intense violence and gunfire between rival groups in the greater Stuttgart area, the situation finally appears to be calming down. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) proudly announces that the high search pressure, numerous arrests and draconian prison sentences have stabilized the situation. LKA President Andreas Stenger explains: “The sum of these measures means that things have simply become quieter.” A ray of light in the midst of the darkness!
Shocking violence and dramatic consequences
But the shadows of violence are far from gone. In March 2023, a man in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen was seriously injured in a cowardly shootout and has been paralyzed ever since. The trial against the alleged perpetrators is ongoing, but the defense is calling for the proceedings to be stopped because they claim that the defendants were listened to too intensively while in custody. A court date is approaching that could decide the fate of the defendants.
Coming to terms with the series of shots ties up enormous police and judicial resources. LKA boss Stenger emphasizes that the investigations are being carried out using forensic means, as both perpetrators and victims are often silent. “We use the entire toolbox we have at our disposal,” says Stenger. So far, 86 people have been arrested and the Stuttgart regional court has already imposed prison sentences totaling 126 years. But the work is far from done; Around a dozen cases relating to the series of shots are still ongoing.
Prevention as the key to safety
State Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) emphasizes that one of the groups involved has been severely weakened. In order to prevent a resurgence, the government is implementing preventive measures to ensure that young people at risk do not slip into subcultural violence. A decisive step in the right direction to make the streets of Stuttgart safer!
