Adler Mannheim celebrates a goal-rich 6:4 win against Wolfsburg Grizzlys!
The Adler Mannheim celebrated a spectacular 6:4 win against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg on Halloween Day! After a series of defeats, this triumph was urgently needed to ease the pressure before the upcoming home game against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. The game in Wolfsburg was a real goal festival in which the spectators witnessed a real fireworks display of goals - a total of seven goals were scored in the second third!
Mannheim started strong, with an early goal from Markus Hännikäinen in the 11th minute. But the Grizzlys quickly equalized. After conceding four goals, the young goalkeeper Arno Tiefensee had to make way for Felix Brückmann before the final third, which once again put the Adler's defense to the test. Despite these difficulties, the Eagles showed impressive morale and were not discouraged. Fabrizio Pilu, who scored his first goal of the season on his 22nd birthday, beamed with joy after needing stitches during the game. “I received a great pass from Matthias Plachta,” he said, “and when I have the empty goal in front of me, I score now and then.”
A game full of drama
The Eagles showed nerve as they regained control of the game in crunch time. Markus Hännikäinen secured the victory and thus the full points with his second goal into the Grizzlys' empty box. Coach Dallas Eakins was proud of his team: "We didn't get the results we wanted in the previous two games. But we managed to put the negatives behind us and perform as a unit."
The Mannheimers were also strong in the majority, with a power play rate of 50 percent. The team now has the opportunity to go into the two-week international break with fresh courage, while five players from Mannheim have been called up for the national team. However, Tobias Fohrler had to be examined in hospital after an accident in the game against Munich and the diagnosis is still pending.
