Eagles lose against Iserlohn: home win on further away!

The Itzehoe Eagles must continue to wait for their first home win in Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga! On the Clever Fit game day, they suffered a bitter defeat against Iserlohn Kangaroos, who triumphed with 96:12, 32:23, 23:21). The Eagles who competed against the second in the table could not show the necessary consistency to seriously challenge the opponent.

Eagles coach Timo Völkerink was aware of the challenge: "We knew pretty much what was coming." But the defensive of the Eagles left something to be desired. In the first half, only four fouls were a clear sign that the team did not play physically enough. While some successful actions took place offensive, the necessary consistency was missing. The free throw quota was particularly painful: Alan Kikwaki and Erik Nyberg met perfectly, but the rest of the team missed decisive opportunities.

Defeat despite catch-up

The start of the second half was catastrophic for the Eagles, which quickly resolved with 20 points. But the team showed fighting spirit and reduced the gap to 45:55. Despite several attempts to push the gap below ten points, the Kangaroos repeatedly found the right answers, such as a threesome by Jorge Mejias, who shone with 25 points. Völkerink recognized that the Eagles got better defensively, but ultimately not enough to turn the game.

"If you want to beat a top team, you need your best game," said Völkerink. The team has potential, but now has to analyze the mistakes and keep their heads up. On Saturday, December 7th, the next challenge in Wolmirstedt is coming up. The Eagles are determined to learn from this defeat and improve!
