40 years of AMSEL: A beacon of hope for those affected by MS!

An impressive anniversary was celebrated: The AMSEL contact group in Friedrichshafen/Bodenseekreis, which has been there for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) for an incredible 40 years, was duly recognized! Minister Manne Lucha praised the tireless work of the members, who, through their willingness to help and their commitment, form a true community of solidarity. “You are a lighthouse for all of us, you have power,” he exclaimed enthusiastically!

The contact group not only offers support with social and psychological issues, but also with medical and nursing care for around 250,000 MS patients in Germany. There are around 34,500 affected people living in Baden-Württemberg, and five new diagnoses are made every day. The leader of the group, Simone Rathke, and the young initiative, represented by Heidi Wirth, informed the guests about the challenges and the importance of self-help. “Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that cannot be cured,” explained Wirth urgently.

Strong support for those affected

Mayor Andreas Hein emphasized that AMSEL supports sick people not only through advice services, but also through exchanges and self-help groups. "Here, where people live, you have been doing valuable work for 40 years. It's great that you exist!", says Hein. Tamara Auer from the Bodenseekreis health department and Sabine Gwarys from the AMSEL regional association also took the opportunity to express their words of thanks.

After a visual review of the last 40 years, Dr. Jürgen Kunz gave a specialist lecture on the latest therapies for MS. The event was not only a celebration of its existence, but also a powerful statement of continued support and solidarity for all those affected!
