On Sunday evening, December 15, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m., the motorway police checked a 32-year-old Slovakian on the S10 in the municipality of Neumarkt im Mühlkreis (Freistadt district, Upper Austria). The police seized both the driver's license and the license plates and temporarily arrested all three occupants, including a 39-year-old Slovakian and a 25-year-old Hungarian. The controversies surrounding license plates continue, especially since Slovakian license plates have received a new design since January 1, 2023. In the current version they are white with black writing and, in addition to the Slovakian coat of arms, contain an individual code consisting of letters and numbers.
