Burglary in the farm shop: 100 euros loot just before Christmas!
On December 22, 2025, a break-in at a farm shop in Möschach caused horror. The incident occurred on Saturday between 5:15 p.m. and 5:17 p.m. when the perpetrators stole around 100 euros in cash and goods worth around 30 euros. A surveillance video documented the break-in, which can now collect additional information for the police. The police call for any information to be passed on directly.
The perpetrators could possibly have previously stayed at the fire station in Möschach on the “Möschach end of Advent”. The description of the two suspects is as follows: The first perpetrator was dressed in a black Parker jacket, brown shoes and blue checkered socks, combined with a gray hoodie and sweatpants. The second perpetrator wore a black jacket and black shoes with orange laces, also chinos or sweatpants and a gray hoodie, presumably with the inscription “PLMDNM”. It was also equipped with a black ring on the left ring finger and a gold or silver ring on the right index finger. Both fled in the direction of Hermagor along the sidewalk on the B87, where empty packaging for the stolen goods, worn-out lanterns and torn-out snow poles were found on their escape route.
Increased burglary numbers and prevention measures
In view of the growing number of burglaries, which stagnated at around 90,000 reported cases in Germany in 2024, the need for security measures and preventive strategies is becoming increasingly urgent. Compared to the previous year, the average amount of damage per burglary rose from 3,600 euros to 3,800 euros. The extremely popular stolen goods are usually smartphones, cameras and computers. This highlights the need for appropriate safety precautions.
One way to protect yourself from break-ins is with surveillance cameras, whose sales have increased significantly in recent years. According to SRF, many camera models are equipped with motion detectors that activate recordings as soon as a person is detected. However, the actual deterrent effect of such devices is controversial. Corina Winkler, a former criminal police officer, reports that this cannot be clearly proven, although cameras provide valuable information about signaling a perpetrator.
Recommended protective measures
In addition to installing surveillance cameras, security experts recommend other preventive measures. This includes closing doors securely, avoiding leaving tools outdoors, and installing sturdy windows and doors. Using outdoor lighting with motion detectors can also increase visibility, which often deters burglars.
It is also advisable to actively seek help from neighbors and to document valuables with photos and invoices to make them easier to recover in the event of a break-in.
Given current burglary trends and growing insecurity, it remains important to address the issue of crime prevention and take appropriate protective measures to ensure one's own safety and to help local police strengthen a sense of security in the community.
