The gender pay gap remains another key concern, with an average pay gap of 12.4 percent between men and women. Women earn an average of 40,000 euros annually, while men do significantly better at around 45,750 euros. This discrepancy is not only reflected overall, but also in the distribution of income, where the adjusted gender pay gap requires a differentiated view.
Regional differences are also significant. In cities like Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt am Main, salaries are significantly higher than the national average at over 54,000 euros per year. In contrast, employees in eastern German states such as Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt often earn less than 37,000 euros. These salary differences reflect the economic conditions and opportunities in the different regions of Germany.
