Savings in the Teltow-Fläming district: Who will feel the pinch?
Big savings are the order of the day in Luckenwalde! The Teltow-Fläming district is facing a remarkable deficit of 25 million euros. The political groups are now being asked to make tough decisions in order to cope with the financial pressure. While some factions define clear savings targets, others warn of fatal consequences for the social infrastructure. Who will ultimately have to bear the costs?
The parliamentary group leader of the CDU/BV/VUB/FDP, Adrian Hepp, sees massive savings in personnel as the key to the solution: “We have to make the administration more efficient and reduce the bureaucracy!” At the same time, he emphasizes that investments in education and infrastructure are taboo - these areas must not suffer from the red pen. But before this tough course, the question remains unanswered: What happens if the cuts endanger important social support?
Conflicts between factions
Erik Stohn from the SPD/Green parliamentary group sounds the alarm: "Saving in the social sector is a wrong move! The coming problems would be far more expensive." He feels responsible for disclosing the controversial budget situation and recalls that a previous reduction in the district levy only exacerbated the current misery. But the AfD makes it clear that it will not agree to an increase in the district levy. “Bad work must have consequences!” says Birgit Bessin, warning valuable resources about further financial burdens.
Felix Thier from Left/The Party takes aim at the indispensable voluntary services: “Wanting to save money here won’t help us!” He is convinced that the discussion about public transport and its financing lies at the heart of the problem. The BVB/Free Voters group, on the other hand, is on the brakes and is demanding more clarity before drastic austerity measures are decided. The debate about the future course of the district has only just begun and the fronts seem to have hardened. It remains to be seen who will have the final say!
