Phillip Verhounig, one of Austria's most promising striker talents, today announced his move to FC Red Bull Salzburg. The 19-year-old signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2027 running. This move takes place as part of the special transfer window between June 2nd and 10th, which has been set up specifically for the upcoming Club World Cup in the summer of 2025, as Laola1 reported.
Verhounig will move from FC Liefering to Bundesliga team Salzburg in the summer. At Liefering, the 19-year-old attacker scored ten goals and prepared five more in 35 appearances. He is currently the top scorer in the UEFA Youth League with a total of eight goals. His impressive offensive performances point to a promising future.
Career and education
Phillip Verhounig joined the Red Bull Academy at the beginning of 2020, where he went through all junior levels and won three titles. Over the years he has made 18 appearances for the ÖFB youth national teams. His physical attributes are also impressive: at 1.85 m tall, he is ideal for the striker position.
Verhounig is currently unable to play due to a muscle injury, but his return to action is eagerly awaited. The Red Bull Academy, which offers a sporting home to almost 400 football and ice hockey young bulls, has established itself as an important development center for talent.
