Saving energy at the Wolfsberg middle school: A project for the future!
The Wolfsberg middle school in the Schwarzautal sends a strong signal for climate protection! It is one of only ten Styrian schools taking part in the innovative energy saving project 50/50, which is led by the Styrian Climate Alliance as part of the “I do it – climate protection initiative”. The aim of the project is to not only save energy but also costs through more environmentally conscious behavior. The highlight: The school receives 50 percent of the saved funds back, while the rest remains with the school authority, reports meinbezirk.at.
The students of class 3a are the main actors in this project. In the coming months, they will actively learn how they can save energy in everyday school life and should also carry the newly gained knowledge into their households. With previous successes in other schools, which have already been able to reduce their energy costs by up to ten percent, the project shows clear perspectives for sustainability and environmental awareness, as is further taught in primary and secondary school lessons in order to develop an understanding of renewable energies and their importance in the energy transition, according to Umwelt-im-lehr.de.
Systematic energy saving
The project is not only an exciting challenge for the students, but also opens the doors to discussions about the role of fossil fuels, nuclear power and renewable energy. The initiative aims to promote education about different energy sources so that students learn to make informed decisions about the energy future. In simulation games and joint projects, they reflect on the various aspects of energy production and use in our society.
