Drama in the forest: Man hit by tree – son saves father!

A serious forestry accident rocked Obervellach today when a 59-year-old man was hit by a falling tree while harvesting wood. The tragic incident occurred on February 5 at around 10:00 a.m. when the man was working in the forest plot along with his 19-year-old son. The tree, which unexpectedly split, fell in the opposite direction and seriously injured the father. Fortunately, the son acted quickly and freed his father from the life-threatening situation before starting the rescue chain. The Obervellach Red Cross and the C7 rescue helicopter immediately rushed to help. The injured person received first aid on site and was then flown to the Spittal/Drau hospital, while the Obervellach volunteer fire department and ten emergency services cut access to the accident site.

Climate-fit forest – education for the future

In the midst of such dramatic events, workshops like “Climate-Fit Forest,” which recently took place at MS Obervellach, remind us of the importance of nature. The KEM and KLAR! Großglockner/Mölltal – Upper Drautal organized this workshop in which DI Günter Sonnleitner explained the functions and value of our forests to the third graders. As part of the workshop, Mayor Arnold Klemm planted a chestnut in the school garden, symbolizing the community's commitment to promoting environmental education. This initiative emphasizes the importance of raising awareness among the young generation about climate change and protecting our forests, especially at a time when nature is facing numerous challenges.

The current incidents and the educational projects highlight both the dangers in the forest and the need to develop a responsible and comprehensive understanding of our environment Dolomite town reported. This combination of current events and education shows how crucial it is to sharpen our awareness of nature and its challenges, even in difficult times. At the same time, the commitment of the community of Obervellach represents an important step towards an environmentally conscious future, as was already documented in the workshop MyDistrict highlights.
