New playground in Biesdorf: Where children can run around safely!

After months of construction and planning work, the playground at the Biesdorf butterfly meadows in Marzahn-Hellersdorf was reopened to children on Wednesday. As the Berlin newspaper reported, a comprehensive renovation was necessary as the central play equipment had to be removed to ensure the safety of the children. The newly designed play area now features modern equipment, including towers, slides and an inclusive swing that is also accessible for wheelchair users. This inclusive design allows children with disabilities to play safely.

The requirements that must be taken into account when constructing and renovating playgrounds are regulated by the EN 1176 standard. This sets out safety standards that operators of public playgrounds must adhere to in order to guarantee safety for all children. The Page kita-ausstatter.de explains that the standard specifies, among other things, requirements for the construction, installation and inspection of playground equipment. This also includes important aspects such as fall protection and the distance between devices to avoid injuries.

The playground's new features also include a special carpet fleece at the end of the slide, which makes wheelchair access easier. For the safety of the children, newly planted lawns and trees will be temporarily cordoned off. Compliance with EN 1176 laws is ensured through regular inspections by qualified professionals, making the new playground not only inviting but also safe.
