Hallbergmoos: Financial recovery in stormy times!

In the municipality of Hallbergmoos, which is characterized by its financial stability, the budget for 2024 was successfully passed. Mayor Josef Niedermair (CSU) emphasizes that despite a negative annual result of around 13,800 euros, the municipality's reserves of 79.9 million euros offer strong security. This was made possible, also by high trade tax revenue, which is estimated at around 21 million euros in 2024. However, there are challenges as the main trade tax payer, SAP, is leaving Hallbergmoos at the end of the year, which could lead to declines in the next few years, such as sueddeutsche.de reported.

Investments and challenges

The municipality is planning to invest 57.4 million euros in the coming years, including the construction of new fire stations and an additional school. Despite the positive mood, the local council noted that the financial reserves are not infinite. The district levy, which will cost Hallbergmoos 85 million euros by 2027, requires careful planning. Treasurer Thomas Grüning also warns of rising personnel and energy costs, which could put a strain on the budget. The total tax revenue forecast for 2024 is 37 million euros, which represents a decrease compared to 2023 when it was 41.7 million euros, as merkur.de reported.

Despite these challenges, the 2024 budget is praised by the parliamentary groups as balanced, which makes the local council optimistic. The plan received unanimous approval, with council members pointing out the need to focus on their mandatory spending and be far-sighted about voluntary spending. While the community hopes to continue to grow thanks to its strategic location between the airport and Munich, the question remains as to how the exodus of business tax payers will affect its financial prospects.
