Demolition of the Dragun Discotheque: A cult wanks after 20 years!
Dragun, Deutschland - In the small village of Dragun, a historic building is demolished, which served as a cultural center for over 120 years. The "Freestyle" discotheque, which was known for countless celebrations and young nights from 1991 to 2004, falls victim to the demolition excavator. This former discotheque was not only a place of pleasure, but also part of the village life for more than a century when dance events took place there in the 1920s and 30s, as the mayor Erich Weidemann tells. The demolition, which gives way to the construction of new living space, is a significant loss for the village community, because the discotheque still has a certain cult status that many are reminiscent of the annual revival party.
The excavator shovel eats bit by bit through the walls of the historical building, which was known as "Dodge City" in the last two decades. Weidemann remembers the lively nights that attracted the young population, but also the problems that came at the end of the company when the visitors no longer only came to celebrate, but also disturbed the neighborhood. The building was later sold and the last party was now 20 years ago. Now it is the remains of these traditions that accompany the demolition because contemporary witnesses of the history have handed over relics of the discotheque to the community to keep the memories alive.
