Lending under pressure: Companies fear for financial support!

Vienna, Österreich - In December 2024, the WiFo business administration climate index reached a value of -6.1 points, which corresponds to a decline of 1.9 points compared to the previous month. This can be seen in the current assessment of the overall economic situation, which has improved slightly at a low level, while the economic expectations went back across all sectors. The decline is primarily due to a deterioration in the industrial economy. According to the WIFO, this index decline signal a very skeptical outlook on future economic development, which is described as alarming. This information was published by vienna.at

The lending practices of the banks were also examined as part of the WiFo business management test. The results show an improvement in the assessments of the willingness of the banks for lending, with an increase of 1.6 points compared to the previous quarter, but the balance remains with -17.7 points in the negative area. Smaller companies under 50 in particular are faced with a higher loan hurdle of -19.3 points, while large companies are better to stand -9.7 points. Nevertheless, the demand for credit with 21.4% remains at a similar level compared to the long -term average of 20.9%. The study by wifo shows that almost 33% of companies with loan needs had to make compromises at height or conditions. This indicates that despite a slight improvement in lending, many companies continue to have difficulty receiving the necessary funds.
