MVV tariff starts: cheap public transport for Weilheim-Schongau from January!

An important step for local public transport in Bavaria: On January 1, 2025, the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Landsberg am Lech will join the Munich Transport Association (MVV). This is the result of a notarial appointment in Munich, in which the district days of the two counties formalized the decision made in November 2023. From this date, citizens can drive directly to the Munich city center with just one ticket. This means not only a simplification for passengers through a uniform tariff, but also an improved timetable information as well as optimized use of the trains and buses.

advantages for the citizens and the district

Entry has far -reaching positive effects: The central arguments for this decision are the cheaper tariffs that will be available to residents. Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter welcomed the MVV accession of Landsberg am Lech and Weilheim and described him as a step to strengthen public transport in the region. For the approximately 260,000 inhabitants of both counties, the use of public transport is now made considerably easier and cheaper. For example, a return trip from Landsberg to Marienplatz in Munich has so far costs 32.80 euros, from January the passengers would only have to pay 18.50 euros with an MVV day card.

In addition, the MVV plans to continue growing in the future. The managing director of the MVV, Bernd Rosenbusch, announced that the association could possibly also accommodate the Landshut, Mühldorf am Inn and Garmisch-Partenkirchen districts in the coming years. This would not only offer passengers easy access to different means of transport, but also reduce environmental pollution by changing more people to bus and train. The planned transition to the MVV tariff on January 1, 2025 is therefore not only seen as a pure tariff offer, but as part of a comprehensive strategy to improve the transport offer in the entire region.
