MVV tariff starts: Cheap public transport for Weilheim-Schongau from January!
A significant step for local public transport in Bavaria: On January 1, 2025, the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Landsberg am Lech will join the Munich Transport Association (MVV). This is the result of a notarial appointment in Munich, at which the district councils of the two districts formalized the decision that had already been made in November 2023. From this date, citizens can travel directly to Munich city center with just one ticket. This not only means simplification for passengers through a uniform tariff, but also improved timetable information and optimized use of trains and buses.
Benefits for citizens and the district
Accession has far-reaching positive effects: The central arguments for this decision are the cheaper tariffs that will be available to residents. Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter welcomed Landsberg am Lech and Weilheim's accession to MVV and described it as a step to strengthen public transport in the region. For the approximately 260,000 residents of both districts, using public transport will now be made much easier and cheaper. For example, a return trip from Landsberg to Marienplatz in Munich currently costs 32.80 euros; from January, passengers would only have to pay 18.50 euros with an MVV day ticket.
In addition, MVV plans to continue to grow in the future. The managing director of the MVV, Bernd Rosenbusch, announced that the association could possibly also include the districts of Landshut, Mühldorf am Inn and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the coming years. This would not only provide passengers with easy access to different modes of transport, but also reduce environmental impact by allowing more people to switch to buses and trains. The planned transition to the MVV tariff on January 1, 2025 is therefore not just seen as a pure tariff offer, but as part of a comprehensive strategy to improve the transport offer in the entire region.
