Drunk driver confuses the tracks with the road – chaos in Heilbronn!

A 41-year-old woman recently caused an extraordinary incident in Heilbronn when she drove her BMW across train tracks and mistook them for a road. According to initial police investigations, it was apparently a drunken driver who took a wrong turn near the main train station on Sunday morning, around 7:15 a.m., and got stuck on the tracks.

The car remained on the track bed after a distance of around 750 meters and caused considerable damage. A Deutsche Bahn work train was necessary to rescue the vehicle from the track bed. Due to the incident, several tracks had to be temporarily closed, which resulted in disruptions to long-distance and regional traffic. The material damage to the BMW amounts to around 50,000 euros, while the damage to the track system is estimated at a five-figure amount, as the Stuttgarter Nachrichten reported.

Details about the incident

According to the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, no injuries were found when the accident was recorded. The woman's vehicle was found on Teresienwiese, i.e. in the immediate vicinity of the route. The track system had to be completely closed to rescue the BMW, which posed a challenge as the Deutsche Bahn work train with a crane had to be called in to help.

Police took a blood sample from the woman to check her alcohol level at the time of the incident. The closed tracks will not be accessible for an indefinite period of time, which will further impact rail traffic, as the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung further reported.
