Good news for the healthcare industry: The University Hospital AKH Vienna has established itself as one of the best hospitals in the world in the latest global rankings! In the current rating of US magazine Newsweek The AKH ranks 27th out of 250 leading hospitals worldwide. However, this is a small step backwards compared to last year, when it ranked 25th. More than 2,400 clinics from 30 countries took part in the assessment.

A total of four Austrian hospitals made it into the top 100. In addition to the Vienna General Hospital, the Innsbruck University Hospitals were also ranked 56th, the Kepler University Hospital Linz was ranked 95th and the University Hospital Graz was ranked 99th. At the international forefront are the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (1), the Cleveland Clinic (2) and the Toronto General - University Health Network in Canada (3).

Vienna as a health metropolis

Mayor Michael Ludwig emphasizes the importance of this award for Vienna and describes the city as an “international health metropolis”. He emphasizes that the University Hospital AKH Vienna, in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna, not only has excellent medical professionals, but also offers internationally leading research. “Generally accessible, top-quality medicine and well-trained specialist staff must continue to be a matter of course in this city,” emphasizes Ludwig, referring to the comprehensive 3.3 billion euro modernization program for community hospitals that was recently presented OTS reported.

With this strategy, the mayor wants to ensure in the long term that the population in Vienna receives the best healthcare and that the city is further strengthened as a location for life sciences and precision medicine.
