New initiative promotes diversity: 5,000 euros for the integration of young Viennese!
The city of Vienna is ushering in a new era of support for young people with a migrant background. With the “Integration of Young People and Young Adults” initiative, the Integration and Diversity Department wants to promote the education and participation of young migrants in particular. This funding, up to 5,000 euros, is available to associations that submit projects that help these target groups better integrate into the labor market. Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr emphasizes the importance of these measures in order to recognize and strengthen the potential of Vienna's diverse youth, as over 50% of the 15 to 19 year old population have a migration background wien.gv.at reported.
Funding of projects
As part of this initiative, a total of 160,000 euros will be invested annually from 2025 to 2026 in projects that support the integration of young people. These range from workshops to dialogue formats to training for educators. Applications can be submitted immediately and will be reviewed by an expert advisory board. The first submission phase runs until January 15, 2025. The small project funding places particular emphasis on projects that deal with the challenges and identities of young people, reports wien.gv.at. This also includes topics such as political education and equal opportunities, which are intended to strengthen the general participation of young people in society.
The funding is specifically intended for projects aimed at teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 25. One focus is on the inclusion of newly arrived and second generation migrants. The city of Vienna is setting an example for equal opportunities and participation, which are essential for mutual understanding and social cohesion in the city. The application deadlines extend until September 2026, and applications must be submitted online. These innovations are an important step towards strengthening the voices of the city's youth and promoting their active participation in social life.
