Debt explosion in Austria: FPÖ warns of financial catastrophe!

Austria's national debt is rising to an alarming 398.4 billion euros, as the current report from "Statistik Austria" shows. FPÖ finance spokesman NAbg. Hubert Fuchs criticized this sharply and described the situation as the result of the failure of the black-green government. “Before the election, former Finance Minister Brunner declared that we would adhere to the Maastricht debt limit,” said Fuchs. But reality shows that debts have increased by 3.6 billion euros in just one quarter. There is a threat of an EU deficit procedure, which could exacerbate the financial problems. Fuchs noted that an incredible 106 billion euros in new debts have been accumulated under ÖVP responsibility since 2018, making the ÖVP the largest debt-making party in the history of the 2nd Republic and raised the question of budget discipline. The FPÖ also claims access to the finances because the ÖVP can no longer be trusted with its public statements, the website “OTS” reported.

Budget policy and the future

Fuchs also commented on the plans of ÖVP Finance Minister Brunner, which he described as “unambitious”. In an interview with Ö1, he explained that the budget of the black-green government endangers the prosperity of the citizens and can only be interpreted as a waste of taxpayers' money. Fuchs calls for incentives for pensioners to actively return to work and rejects an increase in the retirement age to over 65. “The cold progression has not been completely abolished, which means that employees continue to suffer from high inflation and cannot save anything,” said Fuchs critically. He accused the current finance minister of ruthlessly profiting from citizens with VAT and cold progressive taxation and thus fomenting a crisis. Fuchs emphasizes how important it is that new elections are called quickly in order to guarantee the leadership of Austria by the FPÖ with its candidate for chancellor Herbert Kickl.

The political tensions in the country are clearly reflected in the current statements of the FPÖ, which positions itself as an advocate for taxpayers in a time of rising debts and oppressive inflation. According to reports from “fpoe.at”, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to this massive criticism and the impending financial problems, as it is still dealing with internal challenges.
