Winter magic in the Taura adventure village: A weekend full of highlights!

Taura, a small village on the edge of the Dahlener Heide in northern Saxony, has developed into an interesting destination for visitors in recent years. At the end of the 1990s, the vision of the “Adventure Village Taura” emerged, which the villagers put into practice with the help of funding from the LEADER program. The adventure village includes several attractions that attract both locals and tourists.

Highlights include a village oven, which is regularly used to prepare sourdough breads and cakes, and an equestrian center, which is home to around 60 horses and attracts over 100 riders on weekends. There is also a gift and stationery shop and four dining outlets, including restaurants, an ice cream parlor and a bowling alley. A 92-year-old initiator of the adventure village is actively involved in the village museum, which was also created using funding.

A living village museum

The village museum is dedicated to preserving the village's history and aims to remember life in the village in earlier times. The focus is on agriculture and crafts, with guided tours explaining the connection to historical results in the town. Since its opening in September 2006, many visitors, including guests from family celebrations, senior groups from the VHS, guests at the holiday park as well as cycling tourists and interested individuals from the local area, have visited the museum. The museum has an archive of local history, which has been set up since 2015 and includes the work of the local chronicler, who has been working since 2004, such as Taura adventure village reported.

The adventure village also offers numerous other activities. The village experience barn attracts groups who want to attend training courses about local nature. An animal enclosure with goats, deer, ponies and rabbits is also a popular attraction. The “Adventure Village Taura” support association takes care of feeding the animals and making necessary repairs on weekends. In addition, the volunteer fire department trains hook ladder climbing on its own climbing tower and has a strong presence in firefighting sports.

A special highlight is a nostalgically furnished private cinema, which is run by a film fan and uses a 32-millimeter film projector. On January 11, 2025, a wintry weekend in the Taura adventure village will be broadcast on MDR television. It will be broadcast on Saturday at 7:50 p.m. and on Sunday at 8:55 a.m., as well as in the ARD media library MDR reported.
