Forest under the Gaisberg: Safety first - hiking trail closed!
In recent months, heavy snow and storms have severely damaged the forest on the Gaisberg, resulting in a large amount of damaged wood. According to the Austrian Federal Forests, work is now being carried out under high pressure to remove the damaged wood as quickly as possible. Erwin Stampfer from the Federal Forests emphasizes that safety precautions are necessary, so the circular hiking trail must be closed during this work. In addition to deforestation, the focus is also on rejuvenating the forest in order to ensure a sustainable and vital forest structure, as Rudolf Rosenstatter, chairman of the Salzburg Forest Association, explained. The clean-up work should be completed by April 17th, so that hikers will soon be able to enjoy the circular hiking trail on the Gaisberg again, reports ORF Salzburg.
Nice view and popular hike
The Gaisberg circular hiking trail is known for its picturesque views of Salzburg and its relatively easy access. If the hike starts and ends at the Zistelalm, hikers are given two options as to which direction they would like to start. With a duration of around 1.45 hours, this trail is particularly popular with locals, who often visit it after work. The well-designed path leads through forest areas and over wooden footbridges, with a 360° view of the surrounding lake district and the Dachstein Mountains. Brave hikers can climb further to the Gaisbergspitze, where the view is even more magnificent. There are also tips for the trip Bergfex, where special attention is given to the necessary equipment.
