Strike at the Schön Clinic: Psychotherapists fight for appropriate salaries
In Bad Bramstedt, around 130 employees at Schön Klinik have called for an indefinite strike due to inadequate salaries. Among them is 27-year-old Caroline Kermani, a trainee psychotherapist, who says financial worries are affecting her professional performance. At the moment, the trainees only earn around 2,000 euros gross per month for a 32-hour week, whereas according to the collective agreement they would actually be entitled to 4,300 euros. Kermani said during the strike: "It causes stress when you don't know whether you have enough money for rent or for food." Employers at the clinic imposed emergency duty on employees without discussing this with union representatives, which, according to Wolfgang Hooke, Verdi secretary, is seen as an infringement on the employees' right to strike, reported kn-online.de.
Exchange of training opportunities
The Schön Klinik not only offers training and further education opportunities, but also has its own institute that deals with the training of psychologists and doctors. Those interested can find more information about these training programs on the clinic's website. The need to present proof of immunity against Covid-19 and measles is also pointed out, as can be found on the clinic website schoen-klinik.de.
The current strike action was not directly supported by the medical profession, as they agreed to work, which reduced the number of strikers in front of the clinic to around 50. The pressure employees are under raises questions about current working conditions and salary increase negotiations. Unless a workable compromise is found, the end of the strike remains uncertain, which continues to influence the desired collective bargaining.
