Sports year 2025: Hirscher's setback and the highlights at a glance!

The sports world is shocked again: ski legend Marcel Hirscher suffered a painful cruciate ligament tear in his left knee during a training run. This happened in a seemingly harmless situation, as Hirscher himself reports: "What happened? A classic inside ski happened." The ski superstar was admitted to the Ragnitz private clinic in Graz and had to undergo surgery immediately. Despite his positive experiences during the comeback, which led him back to the slopes three years after his retirement, the big goal - the home World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm - has now become a long way off. “Cruciate ligament gone, project over!” Hirscher later said with some regret. As 5min.at reports, he is doing well after the procedure and said he will begin rehabilitation as soon as possible.

Hirscher looks ahead

In a video message, Hirscher reported from the hospital disappointed but calm. He reflected on his injury: "It's obviously very bitter. On the other hand, it's been very cool so far the 8 months where I've been able to really ski again." This attitude is a testament to his passion for the sport and his ability to see the positive aspects of his return to skiing, despite the setback. In his statement, he also thanked the doctors for their excellent work and emphasized that it was an isolated cruciate ligament tear that needed to be treated, especially at his age. “I will definitely do a lot of sport in the future,” says Hirscher. OE24 reported on his rehabilitation plans.

Although the injury is a serious blow for Hirscher and his team, he remains optimistic: “Rehab, training, get healthy, and then we’ll see.” The ski star is grateful and reflective as the ski world eagerly awaits his comeback. His fate illustrates the risks associated with high-performance sport, but at the same time it conveys an important message: the fighting spirit remains undefeated, no matter what challenges come your way.
