Switzerland celebrates historical ski World Cup: 13 medals and a world champion!

Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Österreich - In the picturesque Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the ski world championship was completed on Sunday afternoon with a real medal thriller. The Austrian team did not achieve podium places in the last competition, the men's slalom, but was able to win a total of impressive seven medals: two gold, three silver and two bronze medals. The Austrian team was behind Switzerland, with 13 medals, including five gold medals, celebrated one of the most successful ski world championships in their history, as reported 20 minutes. This great performance was the best for the Swiss since 1987.

The slalom world championship title went to the talented Loïc Meillard, who became the first Swiss in this discipline in 75 years. He not only ensured the glorious degree, but also collected two gold and a silver medal during the World Cup. Overall, the Swiss clearly trumped the Austrians and cheered on their outstanding record, which Swiss Ski President Urs Lehmann described as "unique". In the meantime, Bartholomäus said "Bartl" Gensbichler, President of the Salzburg Ski Association, said after the competition that the results achieved were "overjoyed" and had done outstanding work.

A total of 175,000 spectators took part in the eleven competitions during the World Cup. The security forces, including 450 employees of the Red Cross, were involved in 128 missions, with the most common missions to be attributed to injuries while skiing. Despite the challenges, the emergency services were impressed by the smooth organization and the cooperation between various authorities, which, according to the state rescue commander Stefan Herbst, contributed to a successful implementation of the World Cup. The goals for the next discontinuation of the Ski World Cup open in Crans-Montana, where the FIS flag has already been handed over, which was a crowning glory for the event in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, as ORF stated.
