The Sisters of Mercy Hospital Vienna has taken a decisive step in cancer treatment: The clinic has purchased an innovative, AI-supported navigation and decision support system for percutaneous tumor ablations, which now expands the possibilities of digital therapy. This is a milestone because this new technology allows interventional radiologists to work more precisely and safely, leading to better treatment results. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional views give the treatment team the opportunity to specifically treat tumors such as liver tumors that are only visible on magnetic resonance imaging. “With our new technology, we can place ablation probes precisely and monitor the success of the treatment,” explains senior physician Dr. Helmut Kopf, who is already successfully using the technology.
The system, which is already in use in 70 clinics worldwide, strengthens the specialist clinic's expertise in the field of diagnostic and interventional radiology. The new procedure not only reduces the risk for patients, but also significantly minimizes radiation exposure for medical staff. The Sisters of Mercy Hospital is the third Austrian hospital to choose this advanced technology, after the Vienna General Hospital and the Graz University Hospital.
