New momentum for the SPÖ Carinthia: David Pototschnig as managing director!
An important step in the realignment of the SPÖ Carinthia was taken in Klagenfurt today. Daniel Fellner was introduced as the new state party chairman. Almost 1,000 members gathered at the Villach Congress Center to take part in this important party conference, which also attracted great media interest. Fellner, who was elected on September 20, 2025 with 96.39% of the vote, succeeds Peter Kaiser, who led the party for 15 years. Under Kaiser's leadership, who is now returning to the LKH Villach, the SPÖ Carinthia was able to be handed over debt-free and with reserves.
“We are giving the next generation the opportunity to put their issues on the agenda,” explains Fellner and announces a Carinthia conference in spring 2026 to promote democracy within the party. In his new role, he emphasizes the value of dialogue with citizens and wants to bring the SPÖ closer to the people again. He is supported by David Pototschnig, who was elected as the new state manager.
The new state manager
Fellner praised Pototschnig's positive attitude and his ability to communicate directly with people. Pototschnig, on the other hand, is motivated and sees his new role as an opportunity to achieve a lot. “I am a team player and want to take care of the concerns and fears of citizens,” says Pototschnig. He emphasizes that there will be no “hands-on style” and that the work of the new state management should speak for itself.
The team is committed to focusing on three key points: listening and recognizing fears, strategically expanding social media work with a young, dynamic team, and a respectful style of interaction with one another. This is a sign that the SPÖ Carinthia relies on team spirit, energy and proximity to the citizens.
Goals and visions of the SPÖ Carinthia
The aim of the realignment is not only to regain the trust of citizens, but also to pursue the goal of making Carinthia social and fair. In its history, the SPÖ Carinthia has made a significant contribution to the political landscape in Carinthia and has provided six state governors in the past.
The SPÖ Carinthia is currently sending three representatives to the Austrian Federal Council and is represented by three representatives in the National Council. The internal party structure is supplemented by a large number of sub-organizations, including the SPÖ Women and the Socialist Youth Austria. The coming generation will also be involved in the political discourse through the Socialist Young Generation.
With the new leaders David Pototschnig and Daniel Fellner, the SPÖ Carinthia is well positioned to meet the challenges of the coming years and to bring the needs of the population back into focus.
