NEOS: Government must act now – inflation and labor crisis!
In today's political arena in Austria, the pressure on the government is increasing. The NEOS expressed sharp criticism of the federal government at their opening event for the local council elections. Party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger, although apologetic, could not avoid focusing on the recently failed government negotiations with the ÖVP and SPÖ. Vice club boss Nikolaus Scherak made it clear that the refusal of both major parties to the necessary reform represents a low point. “This absolute unwillingness to reform” has been the “most frightening thing” for NEOS in recent weeks, said Scherak. How noen.at reported, the NEOS are ready to clearly express their voice and criticism.
NEOS demand concrete measures
But it's not just the government that is being criticized - the request for new elections is also currently a hotly debated topic. NEOS mandater Nikolaus Scherak expressed skepticism about this project in a press conference and emphasized that the federal government was required to start its work, especially since it currently seemed as if it was “mentally already on summer vacation.” This reports exxpress.at. Scherak named four urgent points: combating inflation, reducing dependence on Russian gas, the labor shortage in the catering industry and the demand for more political transparency through an overdue freedom of information law.
It was also noted that the rising cost of living is already having a dramatic impact. “We have the highest inflation in 41 years,” warned SPÖ deputy club leader Leichtfried. Social pressure is growing while time for solutions is running out. Given their position in the election campaign, the NEOS appear determined to highlight the government's inability to act and demand solutions to finally address the pressing concerns of citizens.
