Hagnauer Winegrowers' Association celebrates record harvest and great wines!
The Hagnau winegrowers' association celebrated the successful conclusion of the 2024 wine year in the in-house hall. Winegrowers, business partners, politicians, volunteers and representatives of Hagnau clubs and the local council were present. CEO Fabian Dimmeler opened the evening with a review of the 2024 wine year.
The winter was warm with abundant precipitation, followed by summer temperatures in April of up to 26 degrees. In the third week of April, 10,000 hectares in Germany suffered frost damage, affecting around 10% of the total vineyard area. However, Hagnau was spared major frost damage; only the Pinot Blanc suffered burns. May and June were characterized by moderate temperatures, which enabled consistent growth, although changeable and damp weather caused problems with grape fertilization.
Challenges and successes in the wine year 2024
A hailstorm on July 11th caused more damage in the western area of the cultivated areas. Despite frequent rainfall in September and October, which caused concerns about grape rot, the grapes remained healthy, allowing winemakers to harvest ripe grapes in the fall. The Hagnau winegrowers' association consists of 52 winegrower families and cultivates a vineyard area of 177 hectares.
The winemaker's drink takes place annually in January and is celebrated with a drink from a silver cup donated by Heinrich Hansjakob. The 2024 harvest included a Kerner Beerenauslese, a Goldmuskateller Spätlese and a Trockenbeerenauslese of the Souvignier Gris variety. This year, the old wine press hall was finally bid farewell with Suser and onion cake. A total of 11,786 hectoliters of wine were harvested in the fall and are now maturing in the cellar.
Honors were given to Hermann Dimmeler and Thomas Pfisterer by the association auditor Olaf Stockmann. Mayor Volker Frede, Pastor Matthias Schneider and Lake Constance Wine Princess Lena Frank gave speeches. The latter recognized the winemakers as “true heroes” for their work in harmony with nature. This year's silver cup contained a yellow Muscat from 2023, described as a floral palate delight.
The Hagnauer Winegrowers' Association, founded on October 20, 1881, is the largest cooperative winery on Lake Constance. Around 52 winegrowing families cultivate 170 hectares of vineyards, which are characterized by a diverse grape variety structure. The annual production amounts to around 1.3 million bottles of wine, and the locations include the large Sonnenufer location and the Hagnauer Burgstall single location. Viticulture is carried out according to sustainable, controlled and environmentally friendly guidelines, with part of the vineyards also being cultivated organically, as shown on hagnaauer.de can be read.
