Local council elections in Vorarlberg: Excitement before the runoff election!

Local elections were held in Vorarlberg on March 16, 2025, in which the ÖVP candidates received much praise. “Our candidates ran a great municipal council and mayoral election campaign and campaigned for the people’s trust until the last minute,” explained ÖVP General Secretary Nico Marchetti. He was pleased about the majorities that had already been achieved in several communities, including Bludenz. “The excellent work of our officials has been rewarded with good results,” Marchetti added, while final decisions are still awaited in larger cities, such as APA OTS reported.

In connection with the federal election on February 23, 2025, a total of 4,506 election applicants have registered, including 1,422 women. 806 people are only submitting their candidacy for one constituency, while 1,841 candidates are running exclusively on a state list. Around 1,859 people apply both in a constituency and on a state list. In addition, 62 are running as independent, individual candidates. 29 of the 41 parties recognized by the Federal Election Committee are taking part in the election, including renowned movements such as the SPD, CDU and AfD Federal Returning Officer explained.

Voter turnout and significance

The elections in Vorarlberg are of greater importance as the final results could influence the political landscape in the next few weeks. Marchetti appealed to everyone involved in the future to continue to promote their concerns and to concentrate on the upcoming runoff elections. The federal election data also illustrates the large number of candidacies that will represent a broad range of opinions and political positions. This will intensify discussions in the run-up to the election and could have a decisive impact on Germany's political direction.
